Great winter jacket
black looks perfect
Plenty warm for chairlift days and comfortable enough that I don't feel restricted through the shoulders.
Stitching, zippers and outer fabric all feel solid. Nothing about it feels flimsy.
Exactly what I wanted
premium feel
Built for winter
Warm, comfortable and the fit was right on the first try.
I ordered my normal size and found it slightly roomier than the jackets I usually wear. Once I added my normal ski layers underneath the fit made more sense.
Wore this through wet snow for most of an afternoon and stayed completely comfortable. The outer material feels tough and the insulation doesn't make it overly bulky.
Stayed warm from first chair until the end of the afternoon.
I've used it in powder, wind and one day of pretty gross wet snow. No issues with warmth or water getting through.
The insulation is great when it's properly cold, but I got pretty hot wearing it on a mild spring day. Opening the vents helped a lot. I'd personally save it for colder conditions rather than using it as my only jacket all season. Build quality is excellent though.
Skied for hours while it was snowing and the jacket never felt wet inside. The insulation stayed comfortable too.
I wore this for four straight days during a trip where the weather changed constantly. First day was sunny, second was windy and the last two had steady snow. I never had to switch jackets or really change my layering much. The vents were useful when I got too warm and the insulation was enough when the temperature dropped later in the day. Pockets are also placed well when I'm actually skiing. Expensive feeling jacket and so far it seems built to last.
I've had it out twice in heavier wet snow and haven't had moisture get through. The black also doesn't show every little mark, which is nice. Fit gives me enough room to move without looking oversized.
There's enough room through the arms and shoulders that I never feel like I'm fighting the jacket. Still looks clean instead of super baggy.
I had to exchange for one size down but after that the fit was great. Exchange was straightforward and the replacement arrived quickly.
Really warm for how streamlined it feels. I can still move easily while skiing and the black looks exactly like I wanted.
Spent a full afternoon skiing while the wind was brutal at the top of the mountain. This was noticeably better than my previous jacket at keeping that cold air from getting through. I had a lightweight midlayer underneath and stayed comfortable.
The material was the first thing I noticed when it arrived. It feels substantial without making the jacket stiff, and there's still enough room underneath for another layer.
I bought this specifically because my old shell required too many layers on colder days. First time out with the Sabre it was roughly -15°C and windy, and a base layer plus light fleece was plenty for me. The jacket moves better than I expected for something insulated. I got warm after a few harder runs, opened the vents and was comfortable again pretty quickly. After about eight ski days there are no obvious wear spots. Really happy with it as my main cold-weather jacket.
My cold weather jacket
The warmth and weather protection are genuinely good, but I found the jacket heavier than I personally prefer. I tend to ski pretty aggressively and run hot, so I ended up using the vents often. On colder relaxed days I like it much more. The construction seems excellent and I've had zero durability problems. It's a good jacket, just more insulation than I need most days.
Took it out on a day that started around -17°C and never really thought about being cold, which is exactly what I wanted. I only had a base layer and thin fleece underneath. The hood gives good coverage and the jacket blocks wind really well on the lift. I also like that I can vent it when I'm actually working harder. After six days on snow it still looks basically untouched.
I went back and forth on this one because I already had a decent ski jacket. After a January trip with several really cold lift rides, I'm glad I brought the Sabre instead. It blocks wind extremely well and I didn't need nearly as much underneath as I normally wear. I also took a few falls in deeper snow and didn't end up with snow all through the jacket. The black still looks new after around ten days of use. Definitely feels like something I'll keep for years.
This definitely feels more substantial than a lightweight shell. I like the warmth and build quality, but personally wouldn't choose it for days where I'm doing a ton of hiking. For regular resort skiing it's been great.
The black is simple and the jacket doesn't have a bunch of unnecessary stuff hanging off it. Warmth has been excellent so far.
seriously warm
